camelCase userFirstName JavaScript and Java variables, JSON keys
PascalCase UserFirstName classes and types, C# methods
snake_case user_first_name Python, Ruby, database columns
CONSTANT_CASE USER_FIRST_NAME constants, environment variables
kebab-case user-first-name URLs, CSS classes, file names
Train-Case User-First-Name HTTP headers
dot.case user.first.name configuration keys
path/case user/first/name file paths

Splitting existing names correctly

The converter doesn’t just replace spaces. It first splits the input into words using every boundary it can find (spaces, underscores, hyphens, dots and slashes, lower-to-upper transitions (firstName), acronym boundaries (XMLHttpRequest → xml, http, request) and letter-digit boundaries). So you can paste names in any existing convention and get consistent output.

Accents are removed by default (École → ecole) because many languages and systems only allow ASCII identifiers. Put one name per line to convert a whole list, such as database columns or translation keys.

Questions

What is camelCase?

A naming style where words are joined without spaces and each word after the first starts with a capital letter, like “userFirstName”.

What is the difference between snake_case and kebab-case?

Both use lowercase words; snake_case joins them with underscores (user_name) and kebab-case with hyphens (user-name).
