Share text without sharing personal data

Before you paste a support ticket into a chatbot, forward a log to a vendor or publish an example, remove the details that identify people. The redactor finds and replaces:

Type How it’s detected
Email addresses standard address pattern
Phone numbers international and national formats, 7–15 digits
Card numbers 13–19 digits that pass the Luhn checksum, so order numbers aren’t flagged
IBANs country code + digits that pass the ISO 13616 mod-97 checksum
US Social Security numbers valid SSN structure
IP addresses IPv4 and full IPv6
Web addresses and dates optional
Names and words anything you list

Checksums mean fewer false positives than pattern-only tools.

Replacement styles

  • [EMAIL] labels make it clear what was there.
  • [NAME 1] numbering replaces each distinct value consistently (“Jane Doe” is always [NAME 1]) so the redacted text still makes sense.
  • ██████ or ****** blocks, optionally the same length as the original.

Limits

Automatic redaction catches structured data reliably, but it can’t know every name, address or identifying detail in free text. List the names that matter in the box and read the result before sharing. All processing happens on your device.

Worked example

Here is what the Text Redactor returns for its built-in example. Settings used: Replace with: [EMAIL]; Keep original length: off. Click Try an example in the tool above to load it, then change it as you like.

Questions

How do I remove personal information from text before using ChatGPT?

Paste the text here, list any names in the box, and copy the redacted result. Emails, phone numbers, card numbers, IBANs and IP addresses are hidden automatically.

Does the redactor send my text anywhere?

No. It runs entirely in your browser, which is why it is safe to use on sensitive text.

Will it redact every name?

Only names you list. Automatic detection of names in free text is unreliable, so add the people and organisations that matter.
