From essay to thread in one step
Write or paste the full text; the splitter turns it into posts that each fit the platform’s limit, counted the platform’s way (X’s weighted length, Bluesky’s graphemes). It:
- breaks between sentences wherever possible, and between paragraphs when a new paragraph starts;
- falls back to word breaks for very long sentences, and only splits inside a word when a single “word” (like a long URL) is longer than a post;
- reserves room for numbering such as “3/12”, recalculating until the total is stable, so the numbers never push a post over the limit.
Each post has its own Copy button. Download saves the whole thread as text, with posts separated by lines.
Writing better threads
- Make the first post work on its own (most people only see that one).
- One idea per post; the sentence-based splitting helps.
- End with a summary or a link back to the full piece.
Numbering at the end (“…1/5”) keeps the first words of each post for your content. Choose None if you prefer threads without numbers.
Worked example
Here is what the Thread Splitter returns for its built-in example. Settings used: Platform: X (280); Numbering: 1/5; Number at: End. Click Try an example in the tool above to load it, then change it as you like.
Most writing advice boils down to one idea: respect the reader’s time. Every sentence should either move the argument forward or give the reader a reason to keep going.
Start with the point. Readers skim, so the first line of every paragraph should tell them why it matters. Cut the warm-up sentences you needed to get started; your reader doesn’t.
Then edit for rhythm. Mix short sentences with longer ones, read the draft aloud, and stop when you have said what you came to say.| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Posts | 2 |
| Limit | 280 |
| Longest post | 279 |
Questions
How do I split long text into tweets?
Paste it, choose X, and the text is divided into numbered posts of up to 280 weighted characters, broken at sentence boundaries.
Does numbering count toward the limit?
Yes. Space for “1/5” style numbering is reserved in every post, so each one still fits.
