Remove HTML tags and keep the readable text, with paragraphs and lists.

Readable text from any HTML

Paste the source of a web page, a newsletter or an HTML email and get plain text that keeps its shape:

  • Paragraphs and headings become separate blocks.
  • Line breaks (<br>) are preserved.
  • List items get bullets.
  • Table cells are separated by tabs, so tables paste cleanly into a spreadsheet.
  • Entities such as &amp;, &nbsp; and &eacute; are decoded.
  • Scripts, styles, comments and <head> content are removed entirely, so no CSS or tracking code leaks into your text.

Turn on Keep link URLs to append each link’s address in brackets after its text (useful when you want to keep references).

The conversion is done with a purpose-built parser that runs in your browser; nothing is fetched or uploaded, so it’s safe for internal pages and emails. To keep formatting such as headings, bold and links, convert to Markdown with the HTML to Markdown Converter instead.

Here is what the HTML to Text Converter returns for its built-in example. Settings used: Keep link URLs: off; Bullets for list items: on; Blank line between blocks: on. Click Try an example in the tool above to load it, then change it as you like.
